Jessica Irons received her PhD in microbiology from the University of Georgia in 2019 where she studied the microbial metabolism and cellular stress. As the scientific project coordinator & data communication specialist in the Weitz Group, she coordinates projects, people, and grants while helping to communicate the group’s science. Jessica is passionate about fostering team science, professional development, effective mentoring, and mental health.
Jessica is interested in supporting all aspects of science, including support of researchers. She became interested in these topics after leading the charge for change in her graduate department where she helped to develop yearly student surveys, professional development and mental health initiatives, a peer-mentoring group, and other policy changes.
